Shotawoodcarving...pronounced "Show-Tah". It is the Lakota word for Smoke.

ABOUT SHOTAWOODCARVING

Shota

The Name Shota is a tribute to my Lakota ancestors. It is spelled Sota in Lakota with the "s" sound making an "sh" sound. I thought I would spell it the way it sounded in English to make it simpler to pronounce. I totally overlooked the way most would see it. I hear people telling me "cool name!...Shot-a-woodcarving!" Like a shot-a-whiskey! Well that backfired but I kept the name anyway. I can hear my ancestors laughing at me right now. It could be worse.

The Artist

The Master carver, Ken Craig, (myself) has been carving for over thirty years. Located in South West Washington State, I carve at my shop or will travel and carve on site in existing stumps or logs provided by the client. I will do custom orders and encourage the client to engage in the creative process with me in designing their personal sculpture.

WHERE DO I CARVE?

ANYWHERE?

I will travel to you to carve at your home or business. I have done work all over the western United States with completed projects in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado. I even did a job in Missouri!

HOW DO YOU ORDER A CARVING?

E-mail me and describe to me what you have in mind. I will discuss all details involved with your idea. This will include estimated cost and time frame for completion. If you are not sure of what you want but just love carvings then I can suggest possible ideas that will fit your personal taste. Often I will end up talking to you personally via phone or with a personal visit to your home or business to solidify the project and our client/artist relationship.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once we have settled on an idea the process begins. If I am carving in an existing log or stump at your place then I show up and set up my tools and commence to carve. If no power is available I bring my own generator.

If I am carving a piece for you at my shop the first thing will be to procure a suitable log for your project. If I do not have one in my inventory I will purchase one from a local mill. Then I will create your piece. Once completed I will deliver it to you.

If completed at my shop it will be finished with a waterproof sealer or painted. If done at your home I give the option of sealing or painting it myself or letting the home or business owner finish it themselves. It is fun and doesn't take very long. Many clients choose this DYI option.
